The Mediterranean parasitoid Aphidius transcaspicus is currently under investigation as a potential biological control agent for the mealy plum aphid, Hyalopterus pruni, in California. To better understand the biology of this parasitoid, including the potential existence of distinct strains or geographic races, we have developed a set of nine di‐ and trinucleotide repeat microsatellite markers. These markers were examined for variability in individuals from throughout the geographic distribution of A. transcaspicus, and we found between three and 19 alleles per locus. These are the first loci developed for A. transcaspicus and they will be of value in studying the population structure of this potential biocontrol agent and for future diagnostics. 相似文献

1. The effects of added phosphorus (P) on the growth, P and RNA : DNA contents, and survivorship of snails grazing on laminated microbial mats (living ‘stromatolites’) were examined in the Rio Mesquites at Cuatro Ciénegas, Mexico (total P, c. 0.60 μmol L?1) to test the hypothesis that strong P‐limitation of microautotroph growth produces a stoichiometric constraint on herbivores because of mineral P‐limitation. 2. In a 3‐week experiment performed in summer 2001, addition of phosphorus (+15 μmol L?1) resulted in a strong decline in stromatolite biomass C : P ratio from very high levels (c. 2300 : 1 by atoms) to moderate levels (c. 550 : 1). The endemic hydrobiid snail Mexithauma quadripaludium responded to P‐enrichment with elevated body P content and higher RNA : DNA ratios, especially for small animals likely to be actively growing. This positive response is consistent with the existence of a stoichiometric constraint on snail growth. 3. In a longer experiment (8 weeks) involving a more moderate P enrichment (+5 μmol L?1) in summer 2002, P enrichment reduced stromatolite C : P ratio from moderate values in control treatments (c. 750) to very low values (<100 : 1). Snails responded to stromatolite P‐enrichment with increased body P content but, in contrast to the first experiment, with lower RNA : DNA ratio, lower growth rates, and higher mortality. 4. These contrasting results suggest that both very high and very low biomass C : P ratios in stromatolites are detrimental to M. quadripaludium performance, leading us to hypothesise that these herbivores live on a ‘stoichiometric knife edge’. 相似文献

Eight pilot-scale in-line filtration trials were performed to evaluate the passage of cyanobacterial cells through drinking water filters after sudden increases in hydraulic loading rates. Trials were performed at 30 °C using two coagulant combinations (aluminum sulfate and cationic polymer or ferric chloride and cationic polymer), two initial filter loading rates (7 or 10 m/h) and two species of morphologically different cyanobacteria (Microcystis aeruginosa or Anabaena flos aquae). The filter was perturbed by instantaneously increasing the hydraulic loading rate by 50%. Filter influent and effluent water qualities were characterized by measuring turbidity, particles and chlorophyll a. The observed post-perturbation filter effluent chlorophyll a peaks were 1.6–48 times greater than the pre-perturbation averages. Chlorophyll a peaks were larger for M. aeruginosa than for A. flos aquae. Chlorophyll a peaks were also larger for the higher (10 m/h) than for the lower (7 m/h) initial filter loading rate. The post-perturbation effluent turbidity peaks were 1.4–7.2 times greater than the pre-perturbation averages. The post-perturbation effluent particle peaks were 6.5–25 times greater than the pre-perturbation averages. Mathematical Modelling of Anaerobic Reactors Treating Domestic Wastewater: Rational Criteria for Model Use 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Anaerobic digestion modelling is an established method for assessing anaerobic wastewater treatment for design, systems analysis,
operational analysis, and control. Anaerobic treatment of domestic wastewater is a relatively new, but rapidly maturing technology,
especially in developing countries, where the combination of low cost, and moderate-good performance are particularly attractive.
The key emerging technology is high-rate anaerobic treatment, particularly UASB reactors. Systems modelling can potentially
offer a number of advantages to this field, and the key motivations for modelling have been identified as operational analysis,
technology development, and model-based design. Design is particularly important, as it determines capital cost, a key motivation
for implementers. Published modelling studies for anaerobic domestic sewage treatment are limited in number, but well directed
at specific issues. Most have a low structural complexity, with first order kinetics, as compared to the more commonly used
Monod kinetics. This review addresses the use of anaerobic models in general, application of models to domestic sewage systems,
and evaluates future requirements for models that need to address the key motivations of operational analysis, technology
development, and model-based design. For operational analysis and technology development, a complex model such as the ADM1
is recommended, with further extensions as required to address factors such as sulphate reduction. For design, the critical
issSues are hydraulics and particles (i.e., biomass and solid substrate) modelling. Therefore, the kinetic structure should
be relatively simple (at least two-step), but the hydraulic and particulate model should be relatively complex. 相似文献
